Does Dwelltime track my location in the background?
No — on purpose. Background tracking is how other apps end up inventing days. Dwelltime records a day when you tap "Record where I am now", when you enter a trip, or when you confirm a day recovered from your photos. Nothing runs while you are not looking.
Can Dwelltime track the Schengen 90/180 rule?
Yes. It tracks the rolling 180-day window and shows days used, days left, the last day you may stay and the first day the full 90 days are available again. The engine was checked day-for-day against the European Commission's official calculator. It also handles the 183-day tax tests, the US Substantial Presence Test and any custom limit.
Is my travel data private?
Completely. Trips, locations and day counts are stored only on your iPhone. There is no account, and nothing is uploaded to a server. The app sends anonymous crash reports and never reads the advertising identifier.
Do I need to enter my past trips manually?
You can rebuild years of history from the location tags in your camera roll — reading only the GPS metadata, never the photos, entirely on your device. Recovered days arrive as evidence and are not counted until you confirm them. You can also add or fix any trip by hand.
Which rules and countries does Dwelltime support?
182 built-in rules covering visa limits, tax residency and residence or citizenship requirements — from Schengen 90/180 and the US Substantial Presence Test to tax rules for the UK, Australia, Portugal, the UAE and more, plus US state residency.
